R O A D T O D A M A S C U S Narrator Sit back everyone Welcome again to Donkey Ollies Road to Damascus, Since our last adventure, Ollie has been anxious to get back to Jerusalem and visit some of the friends he made on his first trip there carrying Jesus. The news of Stephens miracles had reached Ollies master Elizabeth and she decided to have Ollie carry their small crippled brother into Jerusalem to see if Stephen could pray for him to be healed. Her mom and dad werent too excited about that idea. The story begins with Elizabeth getting Jehu her crippled brother ready for the trip. EXTERIOR BARNYARD DAY Jehu leaning on a crutch is tending the sheep with a shaggy dog. He tries to catch up to his dog and falls down. It is quite a comical fall and he gets up and brushes off. The dog comes over and licks the dirt off his face. A group of young kids go by running. Jehu looks at them with envy. All around them there are crowds of people NARRATOR When they arrive in Jerusalem after a very hard trip they can barely make it up to where Stephen is speaking. The crowd is so tightly jammed Ollie helps them push through. CROWD (Background noise as Ollie is pushing people out of the way clearing a path for Elizabeth and Jehu to get to the front of the crowd.) . Hey move over I cant see anything. Move out of the way. Make room, Make room. NARRATOR (A group of temple guards start pushing their way to the front.) The crowd goes restless as the guards push their way to the front. STEPHEN (Speaks and ignores the guards and looks straight at Ollie, Jehu and Elizabeth still trying to push their way up to the front..) Men of Israel God always accompanies his word with signs and wonders. ELIZABETH Come on Ollie. Lets bring Jehu up. CROWD (This scene should be from ground level. A lot of feet and the donkey lightly stepping trying to avoid everyones feel. Hey hey thats my foot watch out Whats this donkey doing here? DONKEY OLLIE He haw, He haw. The crowd moves back as Stephen steps forward to personally address Elizabeth Ollie and Jehu. STEPHEN (He reaches for her hand) What have we here. .... Oh its you Elizabeth. What have you brought. ELIZABETH Its my brother Jehu. He cant walk or run or play with the other children. My mother said you could pray for him STEPHEN (Glances at Jehu with compassion) I would love to but not now. .. Look the temple guards are coming NARRATOR Stephen is distracted by the Temple guards carrying their spears and shield. SONG: TEMPE GUARD SONG. As they push their way up people fall all around them mostly the back of people heads are seen as they go face first into pile of other. The guards are round with their shields and very aggressive. Everyone is distracted by Saul/Paul grabbing Stephen and fails to see Jehu jump off the Donkey and do a somersault when he lands almost as if by magic twirling his cane about his head. INTERIOR STALL EVENING NARRATOR VO that night Elizabeth Rebecca and Jehu leave Ollie in a stall by the inn while they wait to see what is going to happen to Stephen. Ollie meets another donkey and tells him the story of Jesus and tells him how his masters son Jehu was healed that very day DONKEY BENJI We that is a beautiful story Ollie. BENI Well, I was his donkey. EXTERIOR JERUSALEM WALLS DAYTIME STEPHEN is lying dead covered with stone. NARRATOR The next morning after they had taken Stephen outside the cityand thrown stones at him until he was dead. INTERIOR STALL DAYTIME NARRATOR(Cont) Saul came into his stall looking for his donkey to take him to Damascus where he was planning on arresting and killing more of the followers of Jesus He stops and addressed the stable master SAUL/PAUL There fetch me my donkey. I must be off to Damascus INNKEEPER (lifts up Benjis foot and shows it to Saul. It is red and split.) I am sorry but your donkey is nearly lame. I dont think he could get you even out of the city in this poor condition. Look at his feet they are split. SAUL/PAUL (roughly grabs Ollie What about this one. Hell do just fine. He answers to the name Ollie EXTERIOR DAMASCUS ROAD DAY NARRATOR Paul takes Ollie off against his will and they begin the long journey to Damascus. Ollie is so sad at being taken away from the kind Elizabeth and Jehu that after a while he grows weary and starts to move very slow. This makes Saul very angry and Saul begins to lash Ollie to move quicker. SAUL/PAUL You small white misfit. Saul realizes that the light has blinded him and gropes in the dirt JESUS Saul Saul ! SAUL/PAUL Who is it? JESUS Saul why do you persecute me? SAUL/PAUL (He gropes for Ollie) Who is this Lord? I cant see him JESUS It is I Jesus. Go into Damascus and you will be told what to do. SAUL/PAUL Ollie come here let me lean against you. Lead me into the city. EXTERIOR DAMASCUS DAY NARRATOR(Cont) When they finally arrive Ollie is very thirsty and stops at a water trough where he meets another donkey. Sauls companions take him to the house of Ananias and Ollie decides to try and find him OLLIE Wheres the house of Ananias? OTHER DONKEY Is your masters name Saul? OLLIE Yes How did you know? OTHER DONKEY My younger brother Ananias donkey you just missed him theyre already headed out to the straight street. Hurry youll miss him NARRATOR OLLIE drinks quickly and trots along the street until he finally spots another donkey tied up by the home of Ananias He gazes into the window and sees Saul sitting with Ananias laying hands on his head and praying for him INTERIOR ANNANIAS ROOM DAY ANANIAS Saul the Lord Jesus has sent me here so that you might see again and be filled with the Holy Spirit. A BRIGHT LIGHT FILL THE ROOM. SAUL I can see its like scales have been taken off of my eyes. NARRATOR Ollie watches Saul being healed and is reminded of his young master Jehu also being healed. He gets very homesick and starts to cry. Donkey Jerum tries to cheer him up OLLIE I brought him after he was blinded on Damascus Road but now Im sure wish I could go home. (Sobbing) DONKEY JERUM Dont be sad. Be happy Damascus is a nice city. Where you from anyway? OLLIE My master is from Bethany. DONKEY JERUM Who know maybe your master will come back and rescue you! NARRATOR INTERIOR STALL DAY Ollie is crying moving his head back and forth. He is very very sad. He watches a few donkeys go by with happy faces because they are walking along with someone who is petting and nuzzling them on their noses. Months past and Sauls preaching has stirred up the synagogue leader to hatred they plan on taking Sauls life and Ollie remains in Damascus more and more homesick for everyone back in Bethany. He even misses his three brothers. Unknown to him Elizabeth has persuaded her mom to let her travel to Damascus with her Aunt Rebecca and find Ollie. Today is the day she finally arrive shes going from inn to inn asking the innkeepers if they have seen Ollie. INTERIOR INN DAYTIME ELIZABETH Are you sure youve never seen him. EXTERIOR STRAIGHT STREET DAY NARRATOR As they are walking down the back alley they hear a loud shouting out of the synagogue window. They stop and listen.
